Social protection programs have become increasingly prevalent in Low and Middle-Income Countries:
- Over 120 LMICs run Cash Transfer Programs for poor families.
- More than 70 LMICs operate social pension programs.
- The number of LMICs running conditional cash transfer programs has more than doubled in the past decade.
Key aspects of social protection in LMICs include:
- Targeting challenges due to large informal sectors and limited data
- The need for both redistributive programs and social insurance schemes
- Increasing use of digital technologies for program delivery and management
